What Are MDF Wall Panels?
Medium density fiberboard (MDF) panels are decorative pieces that are placed on walls to give them the desired texture, pattern, or architectural look. Panels can be manufactured in a wide variety of textures, allowing home and business owners to create a truly customized look with modular components. Individual panels are fitted together to cover large areas as needed.
As their name implies, the panels are made primarily from medium density fiberboard, an engineered composite material consisting of pressed wood fibers, wax, and resin. Its composition and structure make MDF especially dense, strong, and stable (limited contraction/expansion). It is also often less expensive than natural wood materials, which makes it a great choice for renovation projects. ¹
Using Wall Panels to Create Atmosphere and Set a Mood
The installation of artful wall designs can change the entire look and feel of a space, setting the tone for your home or business and subtly affecting the mood of family, friends, employees, customers, and/or visitors. Panels featuring soft curves, for example, can bring to mind relaxing elements like water, while a busy triangular pattern can create an edgy, high-energy feel. You can also use coordinating MDF paneling sets throughout a home or commercial space for a harmonious overarching aesthetic.

How to Install Decorative Wall Paneling for a Professional Result
One of the most important aspects of proper MDF panel installation is the achievement of “continuous pattern flow”—the appearance that the panels are one visually continuous element rather than individual disjointed pieces. To help you achieve the correct pattern alignment and visual flow, all Textures-3D® panels come with a installation instructions to help you properly install them on your wall.
Before installing your wall panels, make sure that you acclimate them to the environment by storing them in the area where they’ll be installed. Once the panels are installed, wait about two days before you fill the seams between them as the adhesive itself may expand or contract as it cures. When you’re ready, fill the seams with an appropriate compound and sand them down smooth before coating the area with primer. If done correctly, this process will create a seamless, professional-quality installation.
