TEXTURES-3D® WALL PANELS – FAQ’S
Q. What are the panels made of and can they be cut?
The panels are made out of MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard), a wood substrate commonly used in kitchen cabinets. Since this is a wood material, it can be easily cut and installed just like any other type of wall panel.
Q. How long does it take to get the product from the time I place the order to the time I receive it?
All of our products are IN-STOCK, ready for immediate delivery. It takes about two days to build a crate and shipping time ranges based on destination. West Coast is 1-2 days, Mid-West is 3-4 days, and East Coast 5-6 days. For Canada, the same applies as East Coast, except add 1-2 extra days for customs clearance.
Q. What are the sizes available and can I order custom thickness?
Our production equipment can only make panels in size 4'x8'. The standard In-Stock thickness is 15mm=5/8", some designs are available in thicker gages. For example, model 150HD-OCE150B is 18mm & 150HD-OCE150 is 21mm.
Q. How long does it take to make a custom order and what is the minimum quantity required?
For in-line products required in thicker gages, it takes 45 days for production and shipment to our facility and there is no minimum. For custom designs, we require two weeks to develop the prototype + 1 week to get it to the client for approval + 45 days for production & shipping, the minimum quantity is 50 panels. In the event the design is suitable for our company and the client agrees, there would be a minimum to the client of 10 panels and we would keep the rest for sale to others.
Q. If the panels measure 4'x8' and the height and length of my wall is 10'x10', do I have to buy full size panels for the extra two feet of difference?
No, we are willing to cut panels in half to sizes 2'x8' or 4'x4' to reduce waste material. A charge of $25 cutting fee will apply, but the savings to the client range from $145 to $195.
Q. I noticed on your website that all the panels are already colored. Do the panels come in different colors or just the ones you show on your website?
The panels are shown on our website already painted for display only. We stock all our panels in a double sanded & double white prime finish ready for painting.
Q. What is the advantage of a primed ready for painting panel as opposed to raw MDF? Would it lower the price if I could order raw MDF and I finish it myself?
Having the panels primed ready for painting saves is one of the major advantages of this product. During the first two applications of primer, the raw MDF will absorb the paint unevenly requiring that the entire surface be sanded not once but twice. The sanding process can take sometimes as long as one solid hour per panel thereby nullifying any savings incurred in buying raw MDF. Further, we do not stock raw MDF panels.
Q. What is "seamless" pattern flow and how is this accomplished?
The panels are computer designed so that the pattern flows from one panel to another. To make them "seamless" is a process that makes the lines between two panels disappear so that it looks like one solid wall with no breaks. To make wall of panels seamless, this requires the application of a filler type material in the joints where two panels meet. The filler is allowed to dry and then sanded by hand so the filler blends with the material and the lines disappear. It requires a bit of labor in sanding, but not any more difficult than installing drywall.
Q. How difficult is it to install these panels?
On this question, please refer to our installation instructions for details. In summary, the panels are installed with a combination of panel adhesive on the back like liquid nails, and either counter-sunk screws or headless nails shot with nail gun. Once the panels are installed, the filler material is applied to the nail or screw holes and the seams between the two panels.
Q. What is the best method to paint the panels?
The best method is to spray and the second best is to use a roller.
USING WATER BASED METALIC PAINTS
Q. I painted the Textures-3D® panels with a roller, but they do not look even or the finish has bubbles. What is wrong?
Usually the main reasons for a finish not looking even are:
- The user did not use our Extender for Rolling.
- They used the wrong size or type of roller.
- They rolled the Textures 3D Metallic Paint like regular latex wall paint.
When rolling a large area, you must add our Extender for Rolling to the Textures-3D® Metallic Paint in a ratio of 16 ounces of Extender to a gallon of Textures-3D® Metallic Paint or 4 ounces to a quart. When painting without the Extender for Rolling, the Textures 3D Metallic Paint will dry very quickly, which can lead you to an uneven finish and lap marks.
We recommend using our Textures-3D® Metallic Paint Roller when applying the Textures-3D® Metallic Paint. When rolling with our roller, you will create a texture with small bubbles that can be smoothed with continued rolling and back rolling. When our roller is not available, you will need to use a roller cover with a 1/2” nap. Using a lower nap can result in the flattening of the metallic particles and a dulling of the paint finish. Also, do not use foam rollers as this will create many bubbles and leave a messy look.
When rolling with our Textures-3D® Metallic Paint, do not roll in the traditional way of creating a “V” or a “W” as this will change the direction of the metallic particles giving you a very uneven look in your finish. You do need to roll up and down and back roll the entire wall either from floor to ceiling or ceiling to floor following the carved pattern of the panel. This keeps the Textures 3D Metallic Paint looking uniform.
Q. Can I use water instead of Extender for Rolling?
You do not want to replace our Extender for Rolling for Textures-3D® Metallic Paint with water when rolling. Once you add water to the paint, you will shorten the drying time even more than it already is. You will only want to use water when diluting the paint for a sprayed application.
Q. Why can’t I use my airless or turbine spray rig to apply your paint?
When spraying our Textures-3D® Metallic Paint through an airless rig, the metallic particles will be destroyed when the paint is atomised. The results are a tone of color and not a true metallic finish. When spraying with a turbine rig, there is not enough air pressure created to push the Textures 3D Metallic Paint. This can result in a spitting of the paint and a severe dulling of the metallic finish.
Q. Can I use flash colors to give me a solid finish?
The biggest question we receive on the Textures-3D® Metallic Paint is about the sheers. The sheer colors are meant to be a decorative accent over another paint color and are not meant to be a solid wall color. They work best when used in a decorative or a trim finish. The finished look will not always appear as they do in the jar. The color will only “flash” from certain directions and will appear as an off tone from others. The sheers can be sprayed but can take anywhere from 3 coats or more to create a uniform finish.
Q. Do I need to use a clear coat on top of my metallic finish?
We recommend using our clear coats on exterior applications or on interior applications that are in high traffic areas. Our clear coats are formulated to maintain the metallic value of the Textures-3D® Metallic Paint. The use of other clear coats could result in the dulling of the finish.
