Ceiling tiles can be made in standard sizes 2’x2’x 15mm or 2’x4’x15mm. Since the weight of a 2’x2 panel is 7.5lbs and a 2’x4’ panel is 15lbs and compared to standard 2’x4’ tiles weighing 5lbs, it is advised that commercially available suspended heavy duty ceiling grid be installed to support the weight. This requires a heavier metal thickness and cable support running every two feet of separation rather than the standard four feet of separation. Average pricing to install a heavier suspended ceiling grid is about $2.25 sq ft, but we recommend that you get a local quote. You may find suspended ceiling installers in www.thebluebook.com. Pricing for ceiling panels is figured out as a fraction of a full panel. A 2'x2 panel will be 1/8 the price of a full panel and a 2'x4' panel will be 1/4 the price of a full panel.
